Informal Ski Race Training with Adolf Brunnhofer & Derald Smith for SASC Members (February 8 at Nakiska)    
Brush up on your race training skills for the ASCSRA (Alberta + 55) ski race (two run giant slalom at Nakiska) on February 15, by enrolling in the ski SASC race training clinic February 8 with volunteer coaches Adolf Brunnhofer, Derald Smith, and possibly Carol Sheppard (all members of the Alberta Masters Ski Club). The race training day will be at Nakiska, Wednesday, February 8, with two sessions: from 10:00–12:00 and from 1:00-3:00. The sessions will be on lower Mighty Peace with 15-feather duster gates, followed by 15-stubby gates and finally 15-conventional pole race gates. Registration cost is $25, cash or cheque made out to SASC, for the one-day clinic on February 8. Cost of the one-day program will be $25 to cover rent of hill space from Nakiska and rent of gates, snow drill and gate screw keys from the Masters Ski Club. Registration will be at the north end (seniors section) of the Nakiska ski lodge with Derald Smith. The $25 does not include your lift ticket. Please fill out the Waiver Form and provide it along with the $25 to Derald Smith during registration beginning at 9:30. Alberta + 55 annual ski race (February 15 at Nakiska, 2xGS)

On Wednesday, February 15, the annual Alberta +55 Zone 3 ski race will be held on the lower Mighty Peace ski run at Nakiska. Late registration/waiver signing and race bib presentation will be carried out in the north end of the Lodge (seniors meeting area) between 9:00 and 10:00, if you have not previously registered by mail. To register in advance for the race, please fill out the registration/waver form and email it to Yvonne Armstrong (mailing address is on page one of the form) or contact Derald Smith at 403-239-0255, email dgsmit@ucalgary.ca. Running order in the race will be determined by gender and age groupings (women and oldest persons first) and based on receipt of registration/waiver forms. Age groupings will be 55-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80+. Note, one does not have to be a member of SASC to race, but must be a member of Alberta +55, and one can come from any of the 7 zones in Alberta. This membership fee also covers your race registration fee. The registration fee does not include your day lift ticket. The combined fastest times of two runs in the giant slalom (GS) course will determine first, second and third places, for which medals will be provided at the awards ceremony at the Finish Line Lounge (second floor of the lodge) at 3:00 PM. The race will begin at 10:30. We expect the race to be completed by lunchtime. All bibs must be returned to the bottom timer following your second race run.

Ski Card Information for 2011/2012

Nakiska: iSki cards - $36 (regular retail price $40+gst). 1 Free Day (any day of the season) at Nakiska and $10 off the regular seniors day ticket or the adult ticket for those who are not yet 65. The iSki card needs to be registered before using the first time and redeemed at the office for the day you ski free. Otherwise, you can set up direct to lift each time. This allows seniors to ski for $42.95 a day.  We will sell the bulk day tickets also for $47 which is a better price for club members who are not 65. Please note we will not be selling the tickets in the lodge as in the past at the request of Nakiska, so please arrange with Barb to pre-purchase the day tickets. The iSki card also provides $8 off day tickets for Fernie and Kimberley.

Sunshine: Sunshine/Marmot cards - $84. Free skiing on days 1, 4 and 7.  On the non-free days, you'll save $26 off regular-priced lift tickets during the months of November and May and $13 off regular-priced lift tickets during the months from December to April.  The Sunshine/Marmot Card will give you discounts on food, retail, rentals and accommodation.  

Lake Louise: Louise Plus card - $99 (regular retail price with gst is $104). Free skiing on days 1, 4 and 7.  The card is valid for Lake Louise, Castle Mountain, Kicking Horse and (added this year) Revelstoke.  With the discount of $20 for the rest of the ski days, the seniors lift ticket price is $42.95.  

Norquay: This year Norquay are offering a 7 days/week plus night skiing pass to seniors for $86 plus gst. If you are over 80, the cost is $25 plus gst for the whole season. Ski the second Thursday of each month for only $2. Really! Feb 9, March 8 and April 12.

Canada Olympic Park: COP offers a 20% discount on the new VIP Card exclusively to all members of our club, bringing the card cost down to $39.20 plus gst (general retail price $49 plus tax). The card provides one day of free skiing and a $25% discount off the daily lift rates. The card must be purchased in person at Guest Services and you are to show your SASC membership card at the time of purchase. The card also provides a discount on food and beverages. Since COP offers hourly skiing, you could ski for 4 hours, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, for as little as $18 with the card. COP encourages seniors to ski on Tuesdays by offering free coffee with your purchase of a baked good!

Member's personal information is collected under conditions of strict confidentiality and shall not be released except to Board members for administrative use, to those authorized by the Board to run programs such as tours, dinner/dances and carpooling, and to fellow participants on a particular tour.
  2. Members who receive the personal infortmation of others, for example through participation in tours, must treat this information as confidential.
