18th Annual Golf Tournament
Sixty avid golfers braved a brisk, overcast day to compete in this year’s Texas Scramble Golf Tournament held at the Ponoka Community Golf Club on September 12. The course was picturesque, beautifully maintained and sufficiently challenging for everyone. The Pro-shop manager was a welcoming host and, following the tournament, the banquet manager treated us to a sumptuous meal of chicken cordon bleu with all the trimmings in their newly-opened dining room.
Prize winners for the event were:

Other prizes:

Charles Mears won a golf shirt donated by John Eliuk of Sylver Capital Corp for the golfer who came the farthest.
It was my pleasure to coordinate this year and I trust everyone had an enjoyable outing. I’m sure next year’s coordinator—Roger Teghtmeyer—will have a great event planned for us. Meanwhile, it’s time to pack away the golf clubs and wax up the skis.

What an active summer! Our accolades to our volunteers who make these activities so successful.

3rd Annual Canoe Trip — August 1, 2007
Thirty two members participated in the Northern Branch’s 3rd Annual Canoe Trip on the North Saskatchewan River. The canoeists started the trip with a picnic lunch at Laurier Park (the launch site), then paddled 16 kilometers through the heart of Edmonton, arriving at Goldbar Park 2.5 hours later. The weather was ideal and the scenery was breathtaking.
Twelve additional members joined the canoeists for a hamburger/smokie BBQ at Laurier Park at the conclusion of the trip.
Many thanks to the volunteers (Gordon & Esther Oaks, and Georgie Brooks) who helped to make this event a success.
Klaus & Gail Kyritz
