2011/12 Potluck Dinners
For those of you who may not have attended these fun functions, you are encouraged to give it a try next year. It is a great way to renew acquaintances with ski buddies you may not see over the summer or just socialize with old friends and make new ones.
Hosts set the number of guests according to space they have available.
You are asked to call the hosts and discuss what food item you should bring: a choice of an appetizer, a main course casserole, a salad or a dessert. A bottle of wine per couple is the usual procedure, or bring whatever you plan to drink.
For information, or to express an interest in hosting a Potluck Dinner for next season, please call Shirley Roddick at 403-243-3002.

Informal Ski Race Training with Adolf Brunnhofer & Derald Smith for SASC Members (February 8 at Nakiska)
Brush up on your race training skills for the ASCSRA (Alberta + 55) ski race (two run giant slalom at Nakiska) on February 15, by enrolling in the ski SASC race training clinic February 8 with volunteer coaches Adolf Brunnhofer, Derald Smith, and possibly Carol Sheppard (all members of the Alberta Masters Ski Club). The sessions will be on lower Mighty Peace with 15-feather duster gates, followed by 15-stubby gates and finally 15-conventional pole race gates. Registration cost is $25, cash or cheque made out to SASC, for the one-day clinic on February 8. Cost of the one-day program will be $25 to cover rent of hill space from Nakiska and rent of gates, snow drill and gate screw keys from the Masters Ski Club. Registration will be at the north end (seniors section) of the Nakiska ski lodge with Derald Smith. The $25 does not include your lift ticket. On Wednesday, February 15, the annual Alberta +55 Zone 3 ski race will be held on the lower Mighty Peace ski run at Nakiska. Late registration/waiver signing and race bib presentation will be carried out in the north end of the Lodge (seniors meeting area) between 9:00 and 10:00, if you have not previously registered by mail. The race will begin at 10:30. We expect the race to be completed by lunchtime. All bibs must be returned to the bottom timer following your second race run.

Get Acquainted Day

The "Let's Get Acquainted" afternoon/evening was well attended with around 30 members always there from 3:00 pm till early evening. This seems to be a Popular event. Everyone got their own coffee or food.  The staff at COP put up signs reserving tables for us and brought us literature for their seniors ski card prices.  It was a good time visiting with old friends and meeting new members.

Christmas Dinner and Dance

SASC members came dressed in festive outfits to dance the evening away to the much enjoyed music from the Southern Stardust Big Band.  The Austrian Canadian Club glowed with Christmas ornaments and wreaths, and the people glowed with it. The food was good, the wine was fine and there were smiles on people's faces as they danced the evening away.  Another wonderful time spent in the company of friends.  Merry Christmas everyone!!

Annual General Meeting & Volunteer Appreciation Lunch
The 22nd General Annual Meeting was held Friday, May 27, 10:00 am, at Thorncliffe Greenview Community Centre, 5600 Centre Street N, Calgary. About 70 Club members attended the meeting to hear highlights of the Club’s activities for the past year and a review of the Club’s financial status. Agenda items included Elections to fill vacant positions on the Board of Directors and Director reports.
The provisional minutes of the 22nd AGM (2011) are available by clicking here. All attending were invited to enjoy the Volunteer Appreciation Lunch… a light buffet with a choice of beverages served following the meeting, providing an opportunity to talk over the ski season with fellow members.

Summer Barbecue
The popular Club Summer Barbecue took place this year on Saturday, July 23 and 58 people attended.  The weather was perfect – sunny, warm, no wind and very few mozzies.  Everyone gathered outside to enjoy the appetizers and socialize. Most people also chose to dine al fresco on roast beef, Yorkshire puddings, buns, and a variety of salads, veggies and beans. Coffee and desserts were enjoyed downstairs. My many thanks to the volunteers who helped set up, carve, and clear afterwards. Also, many thanks to the member who gave me the recipe for the cook ahead Yorkshire puddings. Also, one nice blue folding lawn chair was left behind and is looking for an owner. It can be picked up at Donna Michael’s place.

Golf Day
The Club Golf Day, now known as The Jack De Lorme Classic, took place on August 8 at the Canal at Delacour Golf Club. As a tribute to Jack De Lorme, this tournament was renamed after him in recognition of his efforts to get the tournament started and keeping it going. Chuck Nowlan presented the certificate to Jack at the end of the tournament.   We had 40 golfers participating and the weather was good and people had lots of fun. The winning team consisted of the new trophy winners Gerry Oliver, Bill Unrau, Donna Cornea and Annette Anderson. Richard Koslowski had some golf balls left from last year, and John Eliuk provided additional balls which all were given out to those with the closest to the line and the longest putt. The winning team received (small) bottles of Bailey’s. The Golf Day was a success also financially with a profit of $5.06.
