The Seniors Alpine Ski Club was incorporated under The Societies Act of the Province of Alberta on February 18, 1993. However, Club roots go back to 1987 when eleven enthusiastic skiers met to develop programs and activities specifically suited to 55+ skiers. The work of northern members who started organizing tours and social events in 1996 resulted in the formation of a Northern Branch in 1999.
The Club is governed by a 13 member volunteer Board of Directors. The Northern Branch Executive Committee was dissolved in May 2008.
As the Club’s membership and popularity grew, organized ski trips became annual events. Calgary and Edmonton each ran their own 2 to 4 day ski tours to our many mountain resorts. For these tours the Club is able to negotiate reduced ticket and accommodation prices for its members. Any member can participate in events organized by the Club. Please see Sports Accident Insurance Plan on the Tour Reservation Conditions page.
Off-hill social activities are also an important aspect of the Club so there are member-hosted potluck suppers during the ski season, Dinner/Dances for Spring and Christmas, an annual Golf Day and a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon open to all following the Annual General Meeting.
The Club offers members opportunities for community skiing involvement, such as volunteering with the very popular "Ski With The Kids" program for William Roper Hull Child and Family Services, assisting the Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing, or serving as Snow Friend Volunteers at Canada Olympic Park.
Each year the Club produces eight issues of its newsletter — the Ski Chatter — which strives to keep members informed of all Club activities. The newsletter is available online or by mail out.
The Bylaws of the Club, revised in 2007 to be in compliance with all provisions of the Alberta Societies Registry, are available in PDF form (Bylaws PDF).
